The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a direct criminal complaint against two Department of State Services witnesses ahead of judgment in his terrorism trial scheduled to be delivered on Thursday. The complaint, filed before a chief magistrates’ court in Abuja, alleges that the witnesses identified as TAA and BBB gave false evidence during proceedings at the federal high court.
According to filings made by his counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu claimed the witnesses willfully provided statements they knew to be untrue while testifying on the admissibility of his 2015 and 2021 statements. He cited sections of the Penal Code, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act and the Constitution in support of the complaint, and referenced affidavits which he said contradict the accounts given by the witnesses.
Kanu argued that both witnesses, who appeared masked and shielded by order of the trial court, gave material falsehoods regarding the chain of custody of his case files.

Kanu, who has been in DSS custody since 2021 has insisted there is no valid charge against him and recently opted to defend himself after disengaging his legal team. Justice James Omotosho has fixed 20 November for judgment and Kanu has also filed a motion seeking to halt the ruling.
