President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, as he awaits further security briefings on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State. The announcement was made on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Mr Onanuga said the President ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area in Kwara State. He added that the police have been directed to pursue the bandits who carried out the attack on worshippers.
President Tinubu had been scheduled to attend the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa before proceeding to Angola for the 7th AU-EU Summit. However, he suspended the trip following the security incidents in Kebbi and Kwara.
The President is now awaiting reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as updates from the police and the Department of State Services. He reiterated his directive to security agencies to ensure the rescue of the 25 kidnapped schoolgirls and bring them home safely.
