President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate withdrawal of police officers assigned to secure VIPs, directing that they be redeployed to strengthen policing across the country. The decision, announced by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, followed a high-level security meeting in Abuja attended by service chiefs and the head of the Department of State Services.
Under the new arrangement, VIPs requiring escorts will now rely on the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The presidency noted that many rural communities remain underserved by police personnel, complicating efforts to protect residents amid rising security concerns.
