Defence Headquarters Moves to Rescue 328 Students Abducted in Kebbi and Niger

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has voiced deep concern following the abduction of 303 pupils from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State and 25 girls from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State. Military officials say troops are currently conducting operations in both areas as efforts intensify to rescue the children and track the attackers.

The Kebbi State Governor alleged that troops were withdrawn from the school shortly before the assault—an allegation the military says it is now reviewing. Defence Media Operations Director, Major General Michael Onoja, noted that all deployments are guided by intelligence, adding that any lapses uncovered will be addressed immediately.

He assured parents and communities that rescuing the students remains the Armed Forces’ top priority, with security around schools set for further reinforcement.
