Former Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, has written to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, seeking a mutually agreed date to appear for questioning over an alleged $14.8 million fraud. The letter, dated 24 November and received by the EFCC on 26 November, cited urgent medical treatment for a life-threatening condition as a reason for delay.
Mr. Sylva described the recent declaration of him as ‘wanted’ as surprising, stressing his previous cooperation with the agency, including administrative bail granted in December 2024. He denied jumping bail or evading authorities and called for fairness, warning that the proceedings could be perceived as a political witch-hunt.

He requested the EFCC set a date, subject to medical clearance, to enable him to respond formally to the allegations.
