Bandits Abduct 24 in Niger State Amid Escalating Insecurity

Bandits have abducted 24 people, including pregnant women, from a rice farm in Palaita community, Erena Ward, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, in an attack on Wednesday afternoon. The victims were seized while harvesting crops, despite the village being only five kilometres from a military base.

Earlier the same day, armed men invaded Kakuru community, brutally amputating the right hand of a blind resident after confiscating a mobile phone. He is now receiving first aid at a local patent medicine shop.

The Niger State Police confirmed the attacks and said efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims, which follow a spate of kidnappings in the state, including the abduction of more than 300 students and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri last week, highlighting the deepening security crisis in northern Nigeria.
