TTP Invests N4.2bn in Apapa Traffic Reforms, Seeks Approval for Tamper-Proof E-Tags

Truck Transit Parks Ltd, operators of the Nigeria Ports Authority’s Eto electronic call-up system, say they have invested N4.2bn in efforts to ease chronic congestion around Apapa and Tin Can Island ports. Managing Director Jama Onwubuariri told port stakeholders in Lagos that N2.4bn was deployed in the first 20 months of operations, but further investment remains necessary.

TTP reports that since launch, the platform has processed more than three million truck movements, cutting cargo haulage costs by 65 percent and reducing turnaround times to three days. However, widespread violations persist. Drivers are said to swap or forge number plates to bypass identity checks, while some truckers stall on access routes in search of replacement cargo.

TTP is awaiting regulatory approval for a N200m tamper-proof e-tag designed to give each truck a secure, unalterable digital identity.
