NSA Confirms Niger Schoolchildren Abducted Are Alive, Will Return Soon

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, says the more than 300 schoolchildren and staff abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Niger State, are alive and will soon be reunited with their families.

The NSA, speaking after a solidarity visit to the school’s proprietor, described the period as solemn and difficult, but reassured parents and the public that “the children are doing fine and will be back soon.”

On November 21, armed men stormed the school and took 315 people — 303 students and 12 teachers.

The government says it is taking responsibility and working to ensure the safe return of the victims, while investigations continue to trace perpetrators of the attack.
