Three officials attached to Abia State governor Alex Otti were attacked by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The incident happened between Umuowa and Ihite junction, a short distance from the Sam Mbakwe Airport. The assailants, believed to be fleeing gunmen, opened fire on the vehicle transporting the aides along the airport corridor.
In a statement, Njoku Ukoha, the governor’s chief press secretary, said the victims were part of an advance team and not members of Otti’s main convoy. He added that the attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday while the officials were on duty at the airport.
