Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin says the National Assembly approved President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform to expand Nigeria’s revenue base and strengthen the economy. He gave the explanation while responding to questions from students during a public lecture organised by the Department of Political Science at the University of Ilorin. Barau, who joined the event virtually, said the tax policy was designed to reduce the nation’s dependence on oil and draw income from several untapped sectors.
He explained that the reform would provide additional funding for education, healthcare, road construction and industrial development. According to him, once implementation begins fully, these investments will drive economic activity across the country.
Barau added that the growth expected from the reforms would translate into more job opportunities for young Nigerians. He emphasised that the policy was created to support long-term national prosperity.
