The United Kingdom has imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia’s military intelligence agency GRU and several of its operatives following a public inquiry into the 2018 Novichok nerve-agent attack in the city of Salisbury.
The inquiry concluded that the attack, which targeted former double agent Sergei Skripal, was ordered at the highest levels, prompting Britain to act.
Under the new measures, sanctions are applied to the entire GRU, including identified cyber-intelligence officers linked to hostile operations across Europe.
