Group Rejects Lagos Ambassadorial Picks

A Lagos socio-cultural group, the De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, has urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to suspend the confirmation of two ambassadorial nominees listed as Lagos representatives. The group alleges that neither nominee is an indigene of Lagos State, making the selection unfair and unconstitutional.

In an open letter signed by its president, Miftau Bolaji Are, and Dr. Lateef Onikoyi, the group argued that Lagos has repeatedly been denied federal appointments meant for its indigenous people. It described the trend as a persistent injustice that violates the federal character principle.

The Foundation claimed that one nominee, Mrs. Lola Akande, is from Delta and Kwara states, while the other, Femi Pedro, allegedly made past remarks dismissing the identity of indigenous Lagosians.

The group urged the Senate to withhold confirmation of any nominee who is not a bona fide Lagos indigene, insisting that the state deserves fair representation like all others.
