RSF Accused of Using Rape as Weapon Against Civilians in El-Fasher

The Sudan Doctors Network has accused the Rapid Support Forces of raping at least 19 women fleeing the city of el-Fasher in North Darfur. The group said two of the victims were pregnant and documented cases among women who reached al-Dabba in the neighbouring Northern State.

Survivors reported mass killings, pillaging, and sexual violence after the RSF seized el-Fasher in October, following an 18-month siege. Amnesty International has labelled the attacks as war crimes, while the UN Human Rights Council has ordered an investigation into abuses in the city.

Sudan’s Justice Minister, Abdullah Dirife, said Khartoum is open to political talks to end the conflict, provided armed militias are removed from both political and military roles. Dirife also warned against the transfer of weapons and infiltration of mercenaries from countries including South America, Chad, and the UAE.

The UN has formally declared famine in el-Fasher and Kaduguli, warning of hunger risks in 20 additional areas across Greater Darfur and Greater Kordofan. The World Food Programme said it is providing aid to five million people but noted that assistance has fallen far short of needs.
