Ngige in EFCC Custody Not Kidnapped, Aide Clarifies

Chris Ngige, former Anambra governor and immediate past minister of labour and employment, is in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission according to his media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe. He said the clarification followed calls from friends and journalists after reports circulated that the ex-minister had been kidnapped.

Chukwuelobe stated that Ngige was not abducted and confirmed in a Facebook post that he was with the EFCC. The Commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, did not respond to requests for confirmation.

Reports of Ngige’s alleged kidnap surfaced days after his convoy was attacked on the Nkpor–Nnobi road in Idemili North in Anambra state on November 27. Gunmen in police and army uniforms opened fire on the escorts, killing a woman who was filming the incident and injuring a police officer and several civilians.
