The University of Jos community is in mourning after eight students of the institution were killed in a road accident in the early hours of Thursday. The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Zaria Road in Jos when a bus carrying eleven students collided with a trailer opposite Unity Bank.
The Federal Road Safety Corps said seven students were found dead at the scene, while another died later in hospital. Three others, all male like the deceased, are receiving treatment. An eyewitness said the bus had been travelling at high speed and attempted a wrongful overtaking before losing control.
FRSC Sector Commander Olajide Mogaji confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway. He urged motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to avoid night journeys, speeding, dangerous driving, and driving under fatigue or the influence of substances.

He also encouraged members of the public to use the FRSC toll-free line 122 to report road crashes or emergencies, adding that safety was especially crucial during the festive season.
