Ahmed Farouk Denies Dangote’s Allegations, Calls Them ‘Wild and Spurious’

The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Ahmed Farouk, has denied corruption allegations made against him by Aliko Dangote, describing them as “wild and spurious.” Farouk said he would wait to defend himself before a formal investigative body rather than engage in public dispute.

Africa’s richest man, Dangote, on Sunday accused Ahmed of economic sabotage, alleging that he undermined domestic refining and lived beyond his legitimate means. Dangote claimed Mr. Farouk spent over seven million dollars on the education of his four children in Switzerland, questioning the integrity of his regulatory oversight.

Dangote formally petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, demanding the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of Farouk. The ICPC confirmed receipt of the petition and said the matter would be investigated.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has summoned both Dangote and Farouk, asking them to stop public comments. Lawmakers from the joint committees on petroleum resources said the move was aimed at preventing tensions from destabilising the downstream petroleum sector.
