At least 16 civilians have been killed in artillery attacks on the city of Dilling in South Kordofan, Sudan, as the country’s civil war enters its third year. The bombardment by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allies from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North targeted residential areas, including women, children, and the elderly, according to the Sudan Doctors Network. The attack adds to more than 100 civilian deaths in the Kordofan region since early December.

The ongoing violence has displaced thousands, with over 50,000 people fleeing across Kordofan’s three states since late October. Health facilities are overwhelmed, contending with cholera and dengue outbreaks.

The UN has described the situation as part of the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, warning of atrocities by both RSF and government-aligned Sudanese Armed Forces. International efforts, including US and Egyptian diplomatic interventions, are underway to secure a ceasefire and humanitarian access.
