The Federal Government has declared December 25, December 26 and January 1, 2026, as public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day and the New Year celebrations.
The announcement was made on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
Mr Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice associated with the birth of Jesus Christ, and urged citizens to pray for peace, security and national progress during the festive period.

The minister also advised Nigerians to remain law-abiding and security-conscious throughout the celebrations, while wishing the country a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
