Sudan’s PM Presents Peace Plan to UN to End War

Sudan’s Prime Minister Kamil Idris has presented a peace plan to the United Nations Security Council aimed at ending the country’s nearly three-year war. The proposal calls for a UN, African Union, and Arab League-monitored ceasefire, and the withdrawal of Rapid Support Forces from occupied territory.

The plan also seeks to disarm RSF fighters and place them in camps, while allowing those not implicated in war crimes to reintegrate into society. Idris said the initiative is a homegrown solution and emphasized the importance of ending the cycle of violence rather than winning a war.

The Prime Minister pledged to organise free elections following a transition period to allow inter-Sudanese dialogue. He urged UNSC members to support the plan, describing it as an opportunity for the international community to stand “on the right side of history.”

Despite the proposal, fighting continues in Kordofan and North Kordofan states, with at least 100 civilians killed since early December. Tens of thousands of people remain displaced, while humanitarian needs in camps near White Nile State are reported to be critical.
