Twelve people killed in separate road crashes in Plateau and Kogi states

Twelve passengers have been killed in separate road accidents in Plateau and Kogi states, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps. Ten people died in Plateau State, while two others were killed in Kogi State.

In Plateau, the crash occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday at a military checkpoint on the Jos–Bauchi road in Jos North Local Government Area. The FRSC said the accident involved four vehicles, two trailers and two minibuses, with 19 people affected.

The Plateau State FRSC Route Commander, Peter Y. Longsan, said the injured were taken to Miya Barkate General Hospital, Jos University Teaching Hospital and the Plateau State Specialist Hospital. He added that preliminary investigations pointed to speeding and reckless driving as major causes.

In Kogi State, the FRSC confirmed that two people died and 12 others were injured in a crash at Osara community in Adavi Local Government Area. The sector commander, Tenimu Etuku, said the collision involved an 18-seater bus travelling from Kano to Auchi and Benin, and an articulated vehicle, with speeding and wrongful overtaking blamed for the accident.
