Nigeria’s drug regulator, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has warned Nigerians about the circulation of counterfeit Kiss brand condoms in major markets across the country. The agency said the alert followed information received from DKT International Nigeria, an organisation involved in contraceptive social marketing and HIV prevention.
NAFDAC said the fake products have been reported in markets including Onitsha, Idumota, Trade Fair and several others across Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe and Enugu. It warned that the counterfeit condoms pose serious health risks due to poor quality, lack of sterilisation, inadequate lubrication, incorrect labelling and failure to meet regulatory standards.
The agency said the use of fake condoms increases the risk of breakage, infections, allergic reactions and ineffective protection, giving users a false sense of safety. It noted that the counterfeit versions differ from the original in packaging, colour shade, labelling, manufacturer details and the absence of medical device information and caution instructions.

NAFDAC advised consumers to look out for key features of the original Kiss condom, including proper instructions, verified manufacturer addresses, medical device details and consistent packaging quality. It urged Nigerians to report suspected fake products and to purchase condoms only from reliable and approved outlets.
