NUJ Mourns Seven Journalists Killed in Gombe Road Crash

The Nigeria Union of Journalists has announced the death of seven journalists in a fatal road accident in Gombe State. The crash occurred on Monday as the journalists were returning from a colleague’s wedding in Kaltungo Local Government Area of the state.

The accident involved a bus belonging to the Nigeria Union of Journalists and was caused by a tyre burst, according to officials. The Federal Road Safety Corps Gombe Sector Commander, Samson Kaura, confirmed that seven people died, while four others sustained varying degrees of injury.

The Director General of Government House Press and Media Affairs in Gombe State, Ismaila Misilli, also confirmed the casualty figures. Those injured are said to be receiving medical attention at health facilities in the state.

In a statement, the NUJ National President, Alhassan Yahya, described the incident as a devastating loss to the journalism profession. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, the Gombe State NUJ Council and the wider media community across Nigeria.
