Kano Hospitals Board Admits Negligence in Patient’s Death

The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has admitted medical negligence in the death of Aishatu Umar, a mother of five, at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano. She died on Sunday while undergoing corrective surgery after a pair of surgical scissors was allegedly left inside her abdomen during an earlier operation at the government-owned facility.

In a statement, the board’s spokesperson, Samira Suleiman, said a preliminary investigation, on the instructions of the Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Mansur Mudi Nagoda confirmed that the scissors were mistakenly left in the patient’s body during a procedure carried out in September 2025.
