Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Falls to 15.15 Percent in December

Nigeria’s headline inflation rate declined to 15.15 percent in December 2025, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The figure is down from 17.33 percent recorded in November. The statistics agency announced the data in its latest consumer price index report released on Thursday, noting that the index rose to 131.2 points in December from 130.5 the previous month.

The Statistician General of the Federation, Adeyemi Adeniran, said changes in the reference period following the rebasing exercise affected the figures. The NBS said the year on year inflation rate in December 2025 was 19.65 percentage points lower than the 34.8 percent recorded in December 2024, while the month on month rate eased to 0.54 percent from 1.22 percent in November, indicating a slower pace of price increases.

Food inflation also declined to 10.84 percent on a year on year basis, compared with 39.84 percent in December 2024. The NBS attributed the drop to lower prices of items including tomatoes, garri, eggs, millet and vegetables.
