At least 21 people have been killed after two high-speed trains collided in southern Spain, according to Spanish authorities. The crash happened on Sunday near the town of Adamuz in Cordoba province, after a train travelling from Malaga to Madrid derailed and crossed onto an oncoming track, striking another train.
Spain’s Interior Ministry said at least 25 people were seriously injured, with several mobile intensive care units, emergency teams and ambulances deployed to the scene. Andalusia’s regional president, Juanma Moreno, said efforts were focused on stabilising the injured before transferring them to hospitals, while expressing solidarity with those affected.

The national rail operator, ADIF, said services between Andalusia and Madrid have been suspended, including routes from Cordoba, Seville, Malaga and Huelva, with disruptions expected to last until at least Monday. An investigation has begun into the cause of the collision, as emergency services continue recovery operations at the site.
