Abia State Government says it has employed 649 medical personnel under its 2025 health workers recruitment exercise. The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this in Umuahia while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu said the recruitment was part of efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare system and improve access to quality medical services. He explained that the figure represents part of the 771 medical personnel approved for recruitment, adding that the remaining positions would be filled soon, including the engagement of a neurosurgeon with a rare speciality.

The commissioner also announced that the Ministry of Housing would soon begin construction of a Civil Service Commission Pocket Layout estate in Umuahia. He said the project is aimed at providing quality and affordable housing for residents, with approval granted to ensure strict adherence to required standards.
