Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has accused some local and international non-governmental organisations of attempting to profit from the demolition of structures in the Makoko area of the state. Speaking to journalists on Monday, the governor said the government was aware that certain NGOs had sought grants and funding by misrepresenting the situation surrounding the exercise.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said the demolitions were carried out in the interest of public safety, noting that many of the affected structures were built illegally under high-tension power lines. He said the state could not ignore the risk of disaster and insisted the government acted to prevent possible loss of lives.
