A magistrate court in Sagamu, Ogun State, has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of a Lexus SUV involved in a crash with former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, to February 25, 2026. Kayode appeared in court on Tuesday for the continuation of proceedings.
Prosecuting counsel, Richard Nigiwe, told the court that three of four prosecution witnesses were present, including officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Vehicle Inspection Office. He asked for an adjournment to allow the case file to be duplicated and forwarded to the Ogun State Attorney General through the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
Counsel to the defendant, Olalekan Abiodun, opposed the request, arguing that the trial should commence since witnesses were already in court. However, the magistrate, Olufunilayo Somefun, ruled that the matter be adjourned to February 25 and ordered that the case file be sent to the attorney general.

Kayode faces a four count charge filed by the Ogun State Police Command, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, and driving without a valid driver’s licence. The charges follow a December 29, 2025 crash near the Sinoma area of Sagamu, in which two of Joshua’s associates, Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, died, while the boxer sustained minor injuries.
