One person has been confirmed dead following multiple crashes on the Otedola Bridge in Lagos in the early hours of Friday, causing severe gridlock along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and leaving thousands of commuters stranded.
Traffic authorities say the main crash occurred inward Secretariat and involved a collision between two heavy-duty trailers carrying sand and granite, reportedly after a contest for right of way. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said the driver of the sand-laden truck was trapped and later pronounced dead at the General Hospital, Ikeja.
LASTMA said the driver of the second trailer was rescued alive and was unhurt, while a secondary accident occurred behind the initial crash after a fully loaded truck overturned and spilled its contents, blocking most of the carriageway.

Security personnel were deployed to manage traffic and recovery operations, with motorists travelling inward Lagos from Mowe, Kara Bridge and Redemption Camp diverted through the Ojodu–Olole route, as authorities described the incident as the latest in a series of deadly crashes on the Otedola Bridge axis.
