Nigeria and Turkey have signed nine agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. The agreements were exchanged after a bilateral meeting between President Bola Tinubu and his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan, alongside ministers from both countries.
The agreements cover cooperation in diaspora policy, defence, media and communication, education and higher education, halal quality infrastructure and social services. Others include the establishment of a joint economy and trade committee, as well as cooperation between Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy Academy and Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Service Academy.

Speaking at a joint press conference, President ErdoÄŸan said Turkey is committed to achieving a five billion dollar trade volume with Nigeria, adding that discussions towards the target have already begun. According to Turkish media, the media and communication agreement allows for information exchange, joint training programmes and reciprocal visits, and will run for an initial period of three years.
