Rivers United have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League after a 4–1 defeat to Egypt’s Pyramids FC at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The result on Sunday ended the Nigerian champions’ hopes of progressing from the group stage, with one round of matches still to play.
The Port Harcourt side took the lead in the 33rd minute through Stephen Manyo, who converted an indirect free kick from the edge of the area. However, the visitors, unbeaten in the group, dominated the second half, equalising through Mostafa Fathy before Marwan Hamdi scored from the penalty spot following a handball by Ochobe Elias.
