Veteran Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has described comparisons between Afrobeats star Wizkid and late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti as ridiculous and disrespectful. He made the comments on the Mic On podcast amid a renewed debate within the music industry.
2Baba said placing both artistes side by side undermines Fela Kuti’s legacy and is also unfair to Wizkid, noting that they belong to different eras and operated under entirely different creative and social conditions. He urged fans and critics to appreciate their contributions independently.
The debate resurfaced following recent public exchanges between Wizkid and Fela’s son, Seun Kuti, after Wizkid reportedly claimed to be bigger than the Afrobeat legend in response to criticism. The remarks triggered widespread reactions on social media.

The comments come as Fela Kuti continues to receive global recognition, having been posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award on January 31, 2026, with his children accepting the honour on his behalf in Los Angeles.
