A national industrial court in Abuja has restrained the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress from proceeding with a protest scheduled for Tuesday, February 3. The order was given on Monday by the presiding judge, Emmanuel Subilim, following an ex parte application filed by the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the Federal Capital Territory Authority.
The court granted the request to restrain the NLC, TUC and their officials from embarking on any protest or strike action against the FCTA. The claimants told the court they feared a breakdown of law and order, obstruction of vehicular movement and disruption of economic activities in the capital if the protest went ahead.

Counsel to the FCT minister, Ogwu Onoja, said the planned protest violated an earlier court order directing FCTA workers to suspend their strike. The ruling follows an indefinite strike by FCTA workers over unresolved welfare demands and comes amid a directive by the FCTA to workers to resume duties, despite the labour unions calling for a solidarity rally in Abuja.
