At least 10 people were feared killed on Tuesday evening after bandits attacked Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. Residents said the attack began around 6 pm when about 200 gunmen stormed the village, firing sporadically and setting several houses on fire.
A resident, Ahmed Yinusa, said the attackers operated for more than an hour before security forces were mobilised, adding that poor road conditions and the distance of over 50 kilometres from Kaiama delayed the military response. Another resident, Idris Mohammed, said about six bodies were lying at the palace of the Emir of Woro, Alhaji Saliu Bio Umar, which was also set ablaze, while it was unclear if the Emir was present during the attack.
The lawmaker representing Kaiama constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Halidu Danbaba, confirmed the incident and called for the extension of military operations to the area.
