PETROAN criticises NNPC chief over Port Harcourt refinery comments

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, PETROAN, has criticised the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bayo Ojulari, over comments on the Port Harcourt refinery. The association faulted his remark that Nigerians should be thankful for the Dangote refinery, following the shutdown of state-owned refineries.

In a statement, PETROAN’s National Public Relations Officer, Joseph Obele, said while the Dangote refinery was a significant private investment, it could not replace the responsibility of government to manage national assets. He warned that repeated public admissions of failure by NNPC leadership could undermine investor confidence, energy security and ongoing efforts at domestic refining, price stability and job creation.

PETROAN described as unacceptable suggestions that there was no urgency to restart the Port Harcourt refinery and warned it could lobby civil society groups and explore legal options to demand Ojulari’s removal if the facility does not resume operations by March 1, 2026.
