PDP Calls for Inquiry into Killings in Kwara Community

The Peoples Democratic Party has condemned the killing of more than 100 people in the Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, and has called for an immediate inquiry. In a statement on Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, described the attack as a major security failure.

The party said warnings of an impending attack were allegedly raised by local leaders but were not acted upon adequately. It expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and the residents of the affected community, adding that the response after the attack was weak and reactive.

The PDP demanded the establishment of an independent panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killings, including the handling of early warning signals. It also called for the provision of humanitarian assistance, medical care and temporary shelter for displaced persons and survivors in Woro.

The opposition party urged the Federal Government to convene an emergency national security summit and invest in community-based early warning systems. It said protecting lives and property remains the primary responsibility of the government, and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to take decisive action to address insecurity.
