Saudi Arabia Sights Crescent Moon Marking The Start of The Muslim Month of Ramadan

Saudi Arabia has officially sighted the crescent moon, marking the beginning of Ramadan 1447. Authorities confirmed the hilal on Tuesday, meaning the holy month of fasting begins today.

As Muslims in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates begin fasting, religious bodies have advised worshippers to follow the fasting timetable set by their local communities.

Meanwhile, in Japan, the Hilal Vision Committee has confirmed the decision to begin fasting on Thursday, February 19,  as the crescent moon was not sighted. Iran, Oman, Singapore and Turkey have also announced Thursday as the first day of fasting in line with their lunar observation process.
