Trump Curious Why Iran Has Not Capitulated Says US Envoy

US President Trump to Host Board of Peace Meeting at White House

US President Donald Trump is questioning why Iran has not yielded to pressure despite Washington’s military build-up in the Middle East. Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, said the president is curious about Iran’s position after warning of a limited strike over its nuclear programme.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said diplomats are still working toward a deal and Tehran is preparing a draft agreement to present in Geneva. Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi, who is mediating the talks, announced the next round of negotiations is scheduled for Thursday.

The US has deployed military assets to the region, including the USS Gerald R Ford and USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carriers with support ships and fighter jets. Trump said the world will know within ten days whether a deal is reached or if military action is needed.

Anti-government protests erupted at several Iranian universities over the weekend, the largest since a deadly crackdown in January. Demonstrators clashed with government supporters, raised pre-revolutionary flags, and chanted slogans, while authorities reported casualties among security personnel and bystanders.
