President Bola Tinubu has urged governors and religious leaders to prioritise the poor and underprivileged through grassroots-focused policies. He made the call on Monday, 23 February 2026, while hosting governors for an interfaith breaking of fast at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President said the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent reflects shared values of sacrifice, discipline and compassion. He called for programmes that directly improve livelihoods, reduce poverty and empower young people across the country.
President Tinubu also said his administration would establish state police to strengthen security, describing safety as the foundation for economic growth and community stability. He said the reform is aimed at giving states more tools to protect residents while reinforcing the national framework.
