The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has denied claims that former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai suffered a nosebleed while in its custody. The agency said El-Rufai had no health issues during his detention.
El-Rufai has been held by the ICPC since February 18 after spending two nights in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. His spokesman, Muyiwa Adekeye, had claimed the former governor was denied full access to his lawyers and family and experienced a nosebleed overnight.
The ICPC rejected these claims, with spokesperson Okor Odey saying the allegation was untrue. The agency maintains that El-Rufai was properly attended to while in its custody.

El-Rufai is under investigation by the ICPC and EFCC over alleged financial impropriety during his tenure as Kaduna State governor from 2015 to 2023. The Kaduna State House of Assembly indicted him in 2024 over alleged diversion of 432 billion naira and recommended his prosecution.
