FCT Minister Denies Claims of Illegal Land Acquisition

FCT Minister Denies Claims of Illegal Land Acquisition

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations of land grabbing against his administration. Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja, the minister described the claims as unsubstantiated and challenged anyone with proof of illegal land acquisition to present evidence, saying he would resign if found guilty.

Wike explained that what critics describe as land grabbing is the enforcement of development conditions tied to land allocations. He said several allottees held plots for up to 20 years without development, adding that the administration has given such owners deadlines to build or risk revocation.

His comments come amid concerns over the withdrawal and reallocation of plots in high-value districts, including areas around Jabi. The minister maintained that the actions are in the public interest and aimed at promoting urban renewal and growth in the capital city.

On his leadership style, Wike said he is focused on delivering results rather than seeking approval. He acknowledged that while waste management in the FCT has improved, challenges remain, and warned that officials responsible for lapses could face sanctions.
