Medical Council Suspends Euracare Director, Two Doctors Over Death of Chimamanda Adichie’s Son

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has suspended the medical director of Euracare and two doctors over the death of Nkanu Adichie-Esege, son of writer Chimamanda Adichie.

He died on January 7, 2026, after complications during medical procedures. An investigative panel found a prima facie case of medical negligence against Euracare and Atlantis Hospital. The suspended doctors are Tunde Majekodunmi, Titus Ogundare and Atinuke Uwajeg. They are barred from practising pending a disciplinary tribunal hearing.

The panel also found evidence of professional misconduct against 10 other doctors at Atlantis Hospital. Eight others were cleared after reviewing submissions and testimonies.

The council says the findings are preliminary. A final decision will be made by the tribunal. A coroner’s inquest is set to begin on April 14.
