The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has suspended the medical director of Euracare and two doctors over the death of Nkanu Adichie-Esege, son of writer Chimamanda Adichie.
He died on January 7, 2026, after complications during medical procedures. An investigative panel found a prima facie case of medical negligence against Euracare and Atlantis Hospital. The suspended doctors are Tunde Majekodunmi, Titus Ogundare and Atinuke Uwajeg. They are barred from practising pending a disciplinary tribunal hearing.
The panel also found evidence of professional misconduct against 10 other doctors at Atlantis Hospital. Eight others were cleared after reviewing submissions and testimonies.
