President Tinubu Suspends Cashless Payment System at Airports

President Bola Tinubu has directed the suspension of the newly introduced cashless payment system at airports across the country. The directive was given to the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, during the Federal Executive Council meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

Briefing State House correspondents after the meeting, the minister said the president ordered an immediate review of the system. He explained that the government would revisit the process and develop a solution that works effectively without placing unnecessary pressure on citizens. He added that a decision would be taken quickly, including possible involvement of the private sector.

The minister also announced that a temporary hybrid system will be introduced. Under this arrangement, passengers who already have payment cards can continue to use them, while those who prefer cash will also be accommodated. He said private sector partners may assist in improving cashless collections going forward.
