The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed five commissioner nominees submitted by Gov. Siminalayi Fubara after screening nine candidates during a session in Port Harcourt on Monday.
The nominees appeared before lawmakers to present their credentials and answer questions on their qualifications and experience before the House voted on their confirmation.
Those confirmed are Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth, and Amairigha Edward Hart.

Four nominees were rejected for various reasons. Professor Datonye Alasia was turned down over discrepancies in his birth certificate and missing tax clearance documents. Charity Deemua was rejected due to conflicting birth dates, missing tax clearance, and her admission that she had no prior work experience. Tamuno Williams lost approval over past criticisms of the Assembly, and Otonye Amachree was denied confirmation following scrutiny over petitions and involvement in a Kalabari regency legal dispute. The Speaker said the House would formally communicate its decision to the governor to enable the swearing in of the confirmed nominees.
