At least 64 people have died in floods and landslides in the Gamo Zone of southern Ethiopia, local police inspector Abraham Buha has confirmed. Dozens more remain missing following days of heavy rainfall.
Most fatalities occurred in highland areas, where saturated slopes gave way, causing mudslides and widespread damage. Emergency teams are monitoring the situation, and officials have urged residents in vulnerable locations to take precautions.
The town of Arba Minch and the surrounding districts have seen continuous rain for two days, destroying homes, farmland, and infrastructure. Mudslides have blocked key roads, and several bridges have been flooded.
