The village head of Odonget community in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State and more than 200 families have been displaced following what residents describe as a military raid.

Community leaders say the incident happened around 1 a.m. last Thursday, when soldiers allegedly stormed the village after a dispute involving illegal miners. Residents report that houses were burnt, several people are missing, and villagers fled into nearby bushes and neighbouring communities.

Local sources say more than 50 homes, including that of the village head, Chief Richard Ahim Ayan, were destroyed, while women, children and elderly residents fled for safety. A youth leader, Amos Agim, says the area has been deserted, with troops still present.
