Morocco shifts focus to hosting 2026 WAFCON after CAF decisions

The Moroccan Football Federation says it is focusing on hosting the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations following a favourable ruling on the 2025 AFCON final. The federation made the announcement on Wednesday.

The decision follows a verdict by the Confederation of African Football Appeals Board, which overturned Senegal’s 1–0 victory over Morocco in the final played on 18 January 2026 in Rabat, awarding the title to Morocco.

The ruling was based on breaches of competition regulations after Senegal’s players walked off the pitch in protest of a late penalty decision. Morocco said its appeal was aimed at upholding fairness and the integrity of the competition.

The federation said it is now looking ahead to hosting the 2026 WAFCON, which has been rescheduled to begin on 25 July. Nigeria’s Super Falcons are the defending champions.
