Nigeria has repatriated 708 stranded citizens from the Niger Republic following a coordinated evacuation led by the Federal Government. The returnees arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano at about 4:08 p.m. on Monday in 12 buses.
Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency said the group, made up mostly of women and children, came from several states, including Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Benue, Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kogi and Niger. They were received for profiling upon arrival.
Authorities said the returnees are being provided with support, including shelter, food, medical care and basic relief materials such as blankets, mosquito nets and hygiene kits. Medical teams from the Nigerian Red Cross Society were also on the ground to attend to those in need of treatment.
