Labour Party Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket to South

The Labour Party has announced that its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election will be zoned to the southern part of Nigeria. The party’s interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, stated this on Tuesday in Abuja after a meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Senator Usman said that while the presidential ticket remains open to interested aspirants, a final decision has been made not to field any aspirant from Northern Nigeria. She explained that the party will uphold the principles of internal democracy, allowing members to vote for their preferred aspirant during the primaries.

She noted that a surge of people joining the party recently may force a shift in the date for the party congresses, initially scheduled to start on Thursday. She stated that sticking to the original date might disenfranchise many new members, so the leadership will meet to consider a new date.

The interim national chairman also addressed a recent attack and vandalism of a party office, revealing that a formal petition has been submitted to the Nigeria Police Force. She expressed confidence that the perpetrators would be brought to book to serve as a deterrent against future political thuggery. She also called on Nigerians to embrace the party’s digital registration platform.
