7 Killed, 13 Injured in Air Strike on Iraq’s Anbar Province

Seven fighters have been killed and 13 others injured in an air strike on a military base in western Iraq’s Anbar province. Iraq’s Defence Ministry says the attack, which occurred on Wednesday, targeted a military healthcare clinic at the Habbaniyah base.

The ministry described the strike as a “heinous crime” and said it violated international laws and norms. An Iraqi police source said that the strike hit positions of the Popular Mobilisation Forces, a paramilitary group that includes Iran-aligned factions and shares the base with the regular army.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has ordered the foreign ministry to summon the United States charge d’affaires in Baghdad over the attacks, according to his office. The move follows earlier plans to summon both Iranian and US ambassadors after a series of recent strikes in the country.

Officials say the latest incident comes amid escalating tensions linked to the wider conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, with Iraq increasingly affected by strikes on military-linked positions in recent weeks.
